CONTRIBUTION OF THE INTERNATIONAL DIPLOMATIC MISSION TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF SCIENTIFIC DIPLOMACY OF THE WORLD

Science can be used to build diplomatic relations and improve political, social and economic ties. Most often, this cooperation is the result of personal contacts that were established at conferences or formed in the course of longer joint research projects (S.V. Bukalova).

On November 13, 2019, the Head of the General Representation of the INTERNATIONAL DILOMATIC MISSION in Europe Vitaliy Pron and the Head of the Representation of our Organization in the Czech Republic Volodymyr Kosmyna were invited to a meeting with Doctor of Science and Head of the Air Quality Laboratory as well as physicochemical characteristics of the atmospheric aerosol.

In May of this year, Mr. Govortsi was introduced to the development of scientists from the Kharkiv Institute of Holography – on-board laser gas analyzer ALGA, designed to detect and localize gas leaks according to European standards, which is of great interest to the Czech scientist. Preliminary talks were held to deepen cooperation between Ukrainian and Czech scientists to improve the environmental situation in Europe.

In the framework of close cooperation between the INTERNATIONAL DIPLOMATIC MISSION and the Kharkiv Institute of Holography during a working visit to Charles University, a pan-European problem was discussed – the spread of aerosol particles in the surface layers of the atmosphere, their properties, sources and impact on public health.

NOTE: According to the WHO, Ukraine is among the most polluted countries in Europe (70.7 deaths per 100,000 population as of 2016). In May 2019, the European Heart Journal reported that this figure was almost three times higher. (Https://www.radiosvoboda.org/a/news-ekologiya-ukraina-chehiya/29970296.html)

During a working meeting with representatives of the INTERNATIONAL DIPLOMATIC MISSION OF PEOPLE’S DIPLOMACY, Jan Govorka confirmed the interest of Czech scientists in cooperation with Ukrainian scientists in this field. The parties agreed to hold a round table in Prague in the near future to develop a joint action plan to unite the potential of scientists from Ukraine and the Czech Republic.
